How Much does Product Photography Cost? [Australia]

Dark product photography in Australia

Product Photography is one of the most important requirements for any successful product-based eCommerce brand. However, it is also an investment that can either be 100% worth it or way too overpriced for the results you're actually getting. The cost depends massively on your project needs, with different media houses charging more or less depending on quality, project scope, and their understanding of what actually makes for effective content.

The short answer: For content of high quality you will be looking at around $2k-$8k for a project, cheaper quality anywhere from $500-$2k, and big-brand quality from $8k-$20k+.

The main thing to note: There is no one answer. It depends entirely on your goals, project scope, and the quality.

Factors Affecting Product Photography Australia Cost

Projects vary in cost depending on the needs of your content. The following are the most important factors that will affect the cost of your next product photography shoot for Product Photography Australia:

  • Quality & Skills: The more expensive the production house, usually means the higher the quality of the content and the more skilful the Photographer is in creating content that actually sells. Quality doesn't just mean literal resolution however, it means the content's attractiveness, visual appeal, brand perception, professionalism, and how well it actually serves in increasing website engagement, qualifying leads, optimising conversion rates, and driving sales.

  • Number of Products/Content: Obviously, the more photos and videos you need, the more the project will cost. However depending on the shoot (if it's a single day 1 location shoot for example), the Photographer may be able to provide photos at more cost-efficient prices with the more photos you purchase. If you also need product videography, this can often be packaged in with ecommerce photography to save time and costs (like we provide!).

  • Location: If you're just looking for studio-based photography, this will usually end up being the most cost-effective, especially if your photographer has their own in-house studio to avoid studio rental fees (like us!). If a lifestyle location suits your content better though (such as a home, restaurant, etc.), location hire costs will contribute to the cost of the project. Location hire ranges anywhere from $300-$3000+ per day depending on the quality of the location.

  • Models: If your content doesn't require any form of models to be successful, then this will be your most cost-effective option. One step up in price is hand models, where only the hand/arm is used in your product photography. However, if full models are needed to make your product photography project succeed, then the cost of model hire will contribute to your project cost (depending on the amount of time models are needed). Model hire typically ranges from $150-$250+ per hour per model.

What you should take away from this

The cost of product photography is incredibly diverse depending on the needs of your project. The BEST way to find out what it will cost is to enquire with a media company whose work resembles what you want to achieve.

A good media company should be able to take your range of budget and tell you exactly what they can achieve and what they can provide you.
